Skip-It Day at the Playground

“Hey, you know what’s a really fun toy?” “What? What is it?” The two children look out over the playground during recess, at everything that they couldn’t play with. The kids were already excited for their next activity: going to the library and picking out books. However, in between, there was still some time left in their break. “It’s a toy called Skip-It, it’s this toy that attaches to one of your ankles and you can skip with it.” “What does skipping look like? You have to show me!” The children stopped playing on the playground equipment, for now, instead, they ran over to an open area where they could play with the toy. “This is how it looks, I will get the Skip-It and show you.” The first child ran over to where her backpack was on the table, she pulled out the Skip It and came back to where they were playing at. She handed one of them to her friend. “Ok so this is what it looks like. You just strap it to your ankle and you can use it.” “Ok so what do I do with this?” “You skip!” She knelt and helped put the Skip-It around her friend’s ankle. Once it was on, she stood up and held the other end in her hand. Then she started skipping. “See, it’s easy.” She continued to skip around the yard, seeing who could do it faster and longer. They spent the rest of recess skipping together. When they were done, they were called back in to line up for library time. As they walked back over to their table where their bags were, she remembered something. “Oh I almost forgot, do you want to come over after school and we can skip some more?” “Yea! Ok I will be at your place at 3:30.” Later that day they skipped together for a long time. They never realized how much time passed as they skipped, but it was fun nevertheless. There was only one problem though, they were both out of breath. “You know what…..I think that’s enough for today okay?” “Ok I guess I’m pretty tired.” So instead of skipping anymore, they laid down on the lawn and watched the clouds float by. They could hear some other kids playing but it wasn’t too close nor too far.
